Is There Light in Nigeria Right Now?
Check Nigeria's national grid status live. See if the grid has collapsed or is online, view current power allocation, and track real-time DisCo load data. Updated twice daily from official NIGGRID sources.

How We Determine Grid Collapse
Important: 0MW readings, even for short hours may be temporary load balancing or switching. We only classify a collapse when:
Morning (8–9am) AND
Evening (6–7pm)
(an almost 12-hour period) both show sustained 0MW allocations. Short periods (a few hours) of zero readings alone do not indicate a national grid collapse.
This transparent methodology ensures accurate reporting.
Nigeria's Live Grid Status Checker
DiscoWatchNG monitors Nigeria's electricity distribution in real-time. Get instant answers to: "Is there light?" and "Has the grid collapsed?"
Data is automatically collected and databased from official NIGGRID sources twice daily (morning and evening).

Nigeria Grid Load Over Time (MW)
Last 15 readings - Shows grid stability trends
📈 What this shows: Historical grid performance. Sharp drops to 0MW in consecutive readings may indicate a national grid collapse.
DisCo Allocation Breakdown (MW)
Current power distribution by company
🏢 What this shows: How much power each DisCo is receiving. Uneven distribution can explain why some areas have light while others don't.
DisCo Load Trend (Last 12 Readings)
📈 Understanding the Trend: This chart shows the power allocation history for the selected distribution company over the last 12 recorded readings. Use this to identify patterns, peak allocation times, and overall supply consistency to your DisCo.
DisCo Performance Range
📊 What This Shows: Compare the current allocation with the historical minimum and maximum values (excluding zero readings) for the selected DisCo. This helps you understand if your current power supply is closer to typical highs or lows, and reveals the full operating range of each distribution company.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nigeria's Grid
Q1: Is There Light in Nigeria Today?
A: Check the grid status indicator above. Current total power allocation is Loading... as of Loading.... If this number is above 0MW, the grid is operational.
Q2: Has Nigeria's National Grid Collapsed?
A: Based on our classification methodology, a collapse is only confirmed when both morning AND evening readings show sustained 0MW allocations. Current collapse status: Checking....
Q3: Why Do GenCos Report Low Gas and Power Supply?
A: Generation companies (GenCos) often face gas supply shortages, pipeline vandalism, or maintenance issues. This directly reduces power available to the national grid. Check GencoWatchNG for generation data.
Q4: How Does Nigeria's National Grid Work?
A: Nigeria's grid operates on three levels: GenCos generate power, TCN transmits it through national lines, and DisCos distribute to consumers. When any part fails, it affects the entire system. See the visual breakdown below.
Understanding Nigeria's National Grid
The national grid is a complex system. Here's how power gets from generation to your home:
GenCos
Generate Power
TCN
Transmission
DisCos
Distribution
Consumers
You
🔍 Why this matters: When you ask "has the grid collapsed?" or "is there light?", you're checking the entire chain. A collapse means power stops at the transmission stage.
